Trongsa Tsechu (Festival)

Trongsa Tsechu is one of an oldest festival in Bhutan usually celebrated during early winter perhaps in December month. It is believed that most of the mask dances are centralised to various region of Bhutan from Trongsa. On the last day of the Trongsa Tsechu, they unfurl the Thongdrel (liberation and blessings at the sight) every time, which is the highlight of the Trongsa Tsechu.

 

TRAVEL ITINERARY

Day 1: Paro

Reception of guests at the Paro airport by our representatives โ€“ Eve Bhutan Tours and Treks.   Drive to Kichu Lhakhang for cleansing ceremony, visit National museum and lunch at Paro town. After lunch drive to capital city of Bhutan, Thimphu which is 65kms drive from Paro. Dinner and overnight stay in hotel Thimphu.

 

Day 2: Thimphu Sightseeing

After breakfast drive for local sightseeing in capital city- visit to national memorial stupa, Changangkha Lhakhang, traditional medicine center, Bhutanese arts & crafts institute, national library house, stop lunch in Capital Street. After lunch, visit handicraft emporium, textile museum, Bhutanese handmade paper factory, the viewpoint of capital fortress, Zilukha nunnery, mini zoo, sangaygag hilltop to view the Capital Street and experience Wangdi-tse nature walk. Dinner and over night stay in hotel Thimphu.

 

Day 3: Thimphu – Trongsa

After our breakfast we will drive to Trongsa valley passing through the two highest passes known Dochula Pass (3150m) and Pelela (3,810m). These are the very popular passes for viewing the eastern Himalayan mountain ranges on the clear days. En-route the Wangduephodrang valley (1300m) with the vegetation made up of rhododendron, magnolia bloom in early spring and through the subtropical and broadleaf forest. The drive will take about 6 โ€“ 7 hours. Dinner and over night stay at hotel, Trongsa.

 

Day 4: Trongsa Sightseeing

After breakfast drive to Trongsa fortress courtyard to attend the fascinating festival. The picnic lunch at the festival ground. Continuing attend the festival till end. After the festival we will drive back to hotel for dinner and over night stay in hotel, Bumthang

 

Day 5: Bumthang – Punakha

After breakfast, get checkout from hotel and drive to Punakha en-route visiting the glacial Phojikha valley โ€“ winter homeland of black neck cranes. Dinner and over night stay in hotel, Punakha/Wangdue

 

Day 6: Punakha – Paro

After breakfast, get checkout from hotel and before start journey to Paro valley, visit the magnificent Punakha fortress and the monastery of fertility. Enjoy lunch at Dochula cafeteria with view of snow peak Himalayan range. After lunch continue journey to Paro. In evening, if time permits stroll around the Paro town. Dinner and over night stay at hotel, Paro.

 

Day 7: Paro Sightseeing

After breakfast drive till the starting point of Tiger Nest hike. The sacred Tiger Nest hike is uphill hike of more than two hours. After hike drive to visit the ruined victory fortress in Balakha and to view the highest glacial peak of Bhutan, Mt Jomolhari. The farewell dinner will be hosted in the one of famous restaurant in Paro Street. Overnight stay in hotel, Paro

 

Day 8: Depart Paro
Breakfast in the hotel, drive to the airport for flight to your onward destination.
